The VXX still is not fixed as of 4/13/22 and ZoneTraderPro has created 3 new template files that do not use VXX. Instead they use SVXY and UVXY. There will be a video out shortly. The most current template is named ZtpVixLogicRealTimeVvixV4. Here is a short description of each. It is important to remember that VXX, UVXY, SVXY, make up 1/6 of the weight of the BloodHound Template output.
VXX
As of 4/13/22 the VXX remains broke. If you want to read why, please check out my last blog post. This is an exchange traded note (ETN), not a fund (ETF). The ETN offers exposure to futures contracts of specified maturities on the VIX index and not direct exposure to the VIX index or its spot level.
SVXY
SVXY provides inverse exposure to an index comprising first- and second-month VIX future positions resulting in a weighted average maturity of one month. The fact that this is an inverse was accounted for in the new template. This is an ETF.
UVXY
UVXY provides 1.5x leveraged exposure to an index comprising first- and second-month VIX futures positions with a weighted average maturity of one month. It is important to understand that there is more leverage in UVXY. This is an ETF.
ZoneTraderPro does not have a preference for which file may be better than another. The suggestion is that you back test all the templates to determine which is best for your trading plan.
INSTALLATION
Download the new VIX File
Right Click and Save As the zip file containing the BloodHound Templates.
These files are unzipped into a folder. Then you have to move them to BhoodHounds’ NinjaTrader folder, and the location is shown below. DO NOT try and import them as a vendor assembly.
NOTE: The file was updated 4/13/2022.
